Nobel Prize in Chemistry Celebrates 3 Experts for Innovative Studies on Framework Materials

The Nobel Prize in Chemistry is given to three distinguished scientists for their seminal contributions on porous materials.

The scientists' research may help tackle some of the pressing global problems, including trapping greenhouse gases to address global warming or minimizing plastic waste through innovative scientific methods.

“I'm deeply honoured and delighted, thank you very much,” remarked Professor Kitagawa during a phone call to the news conference subsequent to receiving the announcement.
“What’s the duration I need to remain? I have an appointment to attend,” he added.

These 3 recipients receive award funds totaling 11 mln SEK (equivalent to £872,000).

Structural Design on a Heart of the Breakthrough

The researchers' studies involves how molecules are structured in unison into intricate structures. The selection panel termed it “molecular architecture”.

The experts formulated methods to build frameworks with considerable spaces among the molecules, permitting different compounds to pass via them.

These compounds are known as metal-organic materials.

This reveal was made by the academic institution at a press event in Stockholm, Sweden.

Susumu Kitagawa is based at Kyoto University in the Asian nation, Professor Richard Robson is associated with the University of Melbourne in the Australian continent, and Prof. Yaghi resides at the UC in the US.

Recent Nobel Winners in Scientific Fields

Last year, three other scientists received the honor for their work on biological molecules, which are fundamental components of life.

It is the third science recognition presented recently. On Tuesday, three physicists won the Nobel Prize in Physics for their research on quantum mechanics that facilitated the creation of the quantum computer.

Earlier, 3 experts' investigations on how the immune system combats pathogens earned them the award for medicine.

One recipient, Dr. Ramsdell, did not receive the news for 20 hours because he was on an disconnected trek.
