Manchester United Set to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for United

The forward, with six months left on her deal, has been a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the WSL side.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated since she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to reports, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Reliable Goal Threat to Boost United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a major boost to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been highly consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Carrington

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United appear to be building momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen additional business:

  1. The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having arrived from a club in the American league, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
