Los Angeles experienced widespread celebrations after the Los Angeles Dodgers won a nail-biting seven-game World Series championship. Supporters worldwide united with local residents in jubilation, marking the first time in 25 years that a team has achieved back-to-back championships.
Los Angeles area events featured a procession through the city center on the morning of the parade, a ticketed rally at the team's home stadium, and spontaneous parties throughout the city.
Social media videos show countless of Los Angeles residents packing city center avenues, many displaying handmade banners and Dodger flags. The team was seen riding high on a open-top bus through the crowds, hoisting the championship trophy proudly.
“I’m already thinking about the third time we’re going to do this,” Shohei Ohtani remarked through an interpreter.
The procession path ended at Dodger Stadium, where the team emerged to the rapper’s “Not Like Us,” with DJ Mustard spinning music and the artist cruising a light blue vintage Cadillac around the stadium’s outfield.
Festivities began well before the parade, with supporters setting off fireworks in the streets of Downtown Los Angeles on the previous evening.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto, awarded the World Series’ Most Valuable Player, spoke directly about the victory.
“We refuse to lose,” Yamamoto said. “I love the Dodgers. This city means everything to me.”
However, the team owner was met with a less warm welcome at the celebration. Recordings from the gathering seem to depict Walter taking the stage to a mix of cheers and boos, with jeers interrupting his address.
The World Series acted as a positive moment in what has been a trying year for the city. An approximate quarter-million people attended to the Dodgers’ victory parade last year, and according to Dodgers player one athlete, supporters this year showed equal or greater support.
“It seems it’s almost double from last year,” he remarked. “The supporters are incredible. It’s truly amazing to be a involved in this.”
