A Mountain of Anime Updates Landed Over the Festive Season

The Christmas holidays offer a plethora of pastimes far superior than scanning the latest news: opening presents, indulging in holiday treats, and employing meditation skills to not yelling at relatives. It is wished you were able to enjoy all these things and more. However, the showbiz industry doesn't go on vacation, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. A slew of thrilling developments emerged during the holidays, and if you didn't see some of them, here is a compilation of the biggest bits.

One-Punch Man Its Third Season Will Continue (In 2027)

Truly the biggest announcement, the much-discussed troubled production that was season 3 of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to halt further production. The show will be back with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—a date so remote they might as well have dubbed it season 4. More surprisingly, animation studio J.C. Staff will still be in charge. On a positive note this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the outset, which could be taken as a good sign. However, the main art for the new episodes is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This leads one to believe that, by now, they must be mocking the fans.

Ruri Dragon Will Be the First Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has built a reputation for being an top-tier animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the high caliber of its output but for the good working conditions of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had not adapted an anime adapted from a manga serialized in Shonen Jump, perhaps the most famous magazine in the industry. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a excellent choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained massive popularity when it debuted in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the author's health issues. When it returned with a lighter schedule, the series demonstrated it still retained the fans' affection and positive sentiment, and now the community is ecstatic about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.

Kingdom Season 6 Has a Sequel Now in the Works

Kingdom is the highly popular, long-running Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English translation, but the anime has been going on for some time, and season 6 was yet another excellent entry. It turns out that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as in production, and it will probably debut in 2026.

Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series

One more studio famous for the artistic merit of its productions, Science Saru has delivered hit shows of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the true story of Fatima, an influential woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and intriguing visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my list of anticipated shows.

The Tougen Anki Series Will Continue With a Second Season

Immediately following the conclusion of episode 24, it was revealed that Tougen Anki will be receiving a sequel. Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will delve into the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete release date has not yet been announced.
