Rock Climbing in the National Park

Including complete newcomers will quickly be climbing sheltered Peak District outcrops on this weekend session. Attendees will become proficient in tying in, safety techniques and several climbing techniques, plus abseiling down. The course is open to all individuals over the age of 13 and over, from first-time climbers to those with limited gym climbing background. Modern Art in Andalucía

This historic hillside village, a ancient town in Andalucía, about a short drive from Granada, is the inspiring location for this art retreat. Participants of all abilities – including novices – will be taught how to plan and create non-representational pieces. A portion of the time will be spent outdoors, working on structured activities en plein air. These initial sketches and paintings will then be developed in the studio, with participants creating several interpretive scenes in acrylics to be exhibited in the village. Participants has exclusive access of the hotel, which is centered on an central patio and has a roof terrace with views over the hills. The price covers five days of art instruction; all meals; and an trip to the nearby fortress and other local sights.

Plant-Based Culinary in Portugal

This Mediterranean culinary holiday, set on a riverside villa in the inland Portuguese region, is draws inspiration from the vegetarian dishes of renowned chefs. Guests will master the art of meze spreads, take part in a falafel-making workshop, perfect mid-morning meals such as shakshuka, and make substantial main courses including a rich mushroom stew and moussaka. There are trips to the local market and a nearby winery to sample local vintages, combined with free time for strolls by the Funcho River, to unwind on the deck or swim in the pool. The accommodation, a former farmhouse, has multiple rooms, plus safari tents in the gardens.

Hip Hop in Buckinghamshire

Hip Hop Don’t Stop is an uplifting, welcoming three-day adults’ street dance camp in High Wycombe. The format throughout the camp is a party-style group warmup, followed by three 90-minute workshops teaching different street dance styles, then an 60-minute jam to show off those solos. Participants are divided into groups based on ability and experience, so it is perfect for those who are completely new to street dance, all the way to experienced performers or teachers. This event does not provide lodging but there are several places to stay nearby, and it is 23-35 minutes by rail into central London.

Sea Shanty Weekend in Cornwall

St Ives is the excellent setting for a sea shanty weekend. Participants will be taught traditional shanties from a folk singer and vocal coach, and try their hand at writing their own. There will be voice exercises, breath control techniques, stagecraft advice and a closing performance. The retreat is based at a country house with views of St Ives Bay. All meals are provided, including a traditional tea on arrival, breakfast options, lunches to go and evening meals. Traditional rum, unfortunately, is not included. Writing in Crete

Author and lecturer an experienced instructor runs the regular sessions on this writing retreat. He covers everything from story structure, characters, setting and suspense, to submitting work to agents. Greg’s wife, the well-known writer Kate Mosse, will co-host events at the beginning and end of the retreat. The holiday is based at a traditional complex in Vamos at the foot of the Lefka Ori – ten private accommodations surround a garden and pool (companions are welcome to come along). On the final evening, budding authors celebrate with a concert in the garden and a final meal.

Beginners' Apiculture in Mid Wales

The Centre for Alternative Technology near Machynlleth runs a host of courses on eco-living: from creating habitats to upcycling. This weekend introduction will help participants learn the fundamentals of beekeeping, explore the life cycle of honeybees and discover their ecological importance. It is designed to produce “ecologically mindful beekeepers”. This course is also a chance to relax in the centre's carefully maintained woodlands, which are home to wildlife, otters, dormice, lesser horseshoe bats and uncommon bird species. Bed and breakfast the night before is 80 pounds, and all meals and lodging for the weekend is 97 pounds.

Sailing for Beginners in Essex

These recently launched summer sailing weekends are spent on Wayfarers and keelboats on the estuary in Essex. They are aimed at adult beginners starting out or more experienced mariners who want a skills update. Sailors can improve their steering, strengthen their seamanship and work towards the Royal Yachting Association’s certification levels in a fun, welcoming environment. There are non-residential and residential packages, with accommodation in basic shared rooms in the waterside sailing school. The non-residential package provides lunches, while the overnight option includes two nights' stay and full board, from full English breakfasts to BBQ dinners.
